Overview
With our Team of scientists and educators, Astronomy Campers operate research-class telescopes and expand their understanding of the cosmos while nurturing lifelong friendships among Campers with similar interests. Since our beginning in 1988, thousands of people, ages 11-85, have journeyed here from all over the world for an unforgettable adventure: Teenagers, parents, adults, educators, Girl Scout leaders, etc. “Camp” has received encouraging feedback and national awards for effectiveness in STEM education. No background in astronomy is necessary.
Many of our Campers, both young and old, have described the Camp-experience. They have published peer-reviewed articles in both scientific and education journals and conferences, succeeded in prominent Science Fairs (local, regional, national), and even presented research results at national astronomy meetings. Engagement in authentic research has been “life-changing” (Arizona research in action).
Our Camp alumni have become national leaders in a wide variety of fields, not just in astronomy, astrophysics, and STEM. We enjoy remaining in contact! Some alumni have served as Camp's staff members. Others now lead their own education/outreach programs in schools, colleges, science centers, etc. Amazingly, some Campers eventually married each other, and children of former Campers have been attending!
