Steve & Kates Camp

Overview

Steve & Kate's has some of the most welcoming and convenient co-ed summer day camps in regions all over the United States. Way back in 1980, Steve and Kate saw kids’ precious independence slipping away. (Yes–Steve and Kate Susskind are real people!) So they set out to do something about it by creating a summer camp. Today, we’ve spawned more than 70 glorious islands of freedom from Manhattan to Manhattan Beach.

When summer comes, we give them what they desperately need — freedom to expand and evolve. At Steve & Kate’s, campers choose which activities they do, whom they do it with and for how long. For kids, this experience is pure joy. It’s also a kind of training ground for life, where they’ll need to be empowered and independent and resilient and responsible for their own decisions. Happy human-ing starts here.

Look around our camp and you’ll see kids absorbed in designing, building, creating, playing, eating, clowning. One of the reasons they’re so happy and engaged is because they’ve chosen their activities and planned their days themselves.

This creates the part that isn’t quite so obvious to the naked eye — but it’s the real payoff. When you empower kids to make their own choices and be their own bosses, they tap into new reserves of confidence, resiliency, and creativity. Kids need freedom and space, not suffocating structure, to grow like this. When they get it, watch out!
