Nevada summer camps offer plenty of great outdoor experiences. With its natural landscapes, there are quite a lot of day camps and overnight camps in the state that focus on the outdoors.

Boys and Girls Club Summer Camps Reno

The Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows offers a wide variety of great summer camps for kids ages six to eighteen to enjoy. Their traditional summer camp features indoor and outdoor activities, such as team sports, crafts, academic enrichment, and outdoor play. 

For those who want a less traditional summer camp experience, they can try out any of their specialty camps. They feature various camp themes and topics, such as ecology, escape rooms, race cars, filmmaking, rocket building, and sports like tennis and soccer. The specialty camps operate during the first half of the day, after which kids get a chance to join their peers in afternoon programs.

The Boys and Girls Club also offers overnight camps for kids ages ten to fourteen at Camp Fleischmann, where kids get a chance to spend time on a fun outdoor adventure. At the sleepaway camp, they can participate in water sports like kayaking, paddleboarding. Other unique activities revolve around relaxing in a natural hot spring, hiking in nature, learning about stargazing, making arts and crafts, and much more.

Galilee Summer Camp

The Galilee Summer Camp is an adventure camp on the picturesque shores of Lake Tahoe in Glenbrook, Nevada. Galilee is a Christian summer camp run by the Episcopal Diocese, although those of all faiths are welcome to attend. 

Camp activities include kayaking around Lake Tahoe, hiking through the woods, going rock climbing, swimming, making arts and crafts, or playing team sports. Each camp session varies slightly by age and allows a three-year range of students, so your child has plenty of opportunities to spend their time at summer camp with other campers close to their own age. 

Camp is offered for children as young as eight and as old as fifteen. Those younger can come to summer camp with the rest of their family for one of the Family Camps, where the entire family can experience being outdoors for the week. 

Teenagers ages 13-16 can also participate in the Teen Backpacking Trip. In this memorable outdoorsman experience, teens get a chance to put their skills to the test and have a more intense outdoor experience.

Great Basin Outdoor School Summer Adventure

The Great Basin Outdoor School’s Summer Adventure Day Camp is an excellent place for kids to learn, play, and experience in wonders of nature. It’s located in West Reno, at the River School Farm and close to Mayberry Park. Boys and girls ages 6-12 spend their day split between participating in activities indoors in the River School Farm and spending time outdoors in the park’s natural environment. 

At the Great Basin, kids can learn on topics revolving around water, geology, local ecology, and much more. Each week of camp features a different focus, with topics like Water & Weather, Energy Rocks, The Great Outdoors, and more.

In addition to learning in a hands-on outdoor environment, kids also get a chance to learn about science through guest speakers, art and craft projects, and thrilling science experiments.

Seedling Theater Company Summer Camp

For budding young actors, the Seedling Theatre Company Summer Camp in Clark County, Nevada, is a great place for students that enjoy the performing arts. There are several different weekly camps for various ages and creative mediums offered at the theatre. 

Children 7-10 can participate in the Juniors Beginning Acting camp, where they learn about theatrical basics, character development, stage presence, and auditioning, plus lots of fun improvisation games. 

Older children 8-12 can participate in a week-long full play performance. They spend the week auditioning, rehearsing, and performing a full-length play, with a special final performance for family and friends. Younger students ages three to six can participate in the Mini Musicals camp, where they sing/dance, dress in fun costumes, and perform each day based on the things they’ve learned.

Student Stewards Summer Camp

The Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation’s annual summer camp is the perfect fit for kids ages 8-12 who enjoy being outdoors learning about nature and science. The programs start during the summer months of June and end in August.

Campers at the Student Stewards Camp spend their summer in Idlewild Park in Reno, learning about many different areas of ecology and other science topics, including water science, wildlife, physical environments, and much more. The week’s curriculum even includes a field trip day, where students get a chance to travel to nearby community locations. They learn in-depth about the week’s topic, such as museums, nature trails, or parks. 

In addition to STEAM learning, nature exploration, and hands-on science projects, this summer day camp also includes classic camp activities like group games, crafts, and team sports.
