Famous Summer Camp Alumni

Attending summer camps is one of the most significant traditions in the United States for millions of families. With so many former campers out there, it’s not too surprising that there are some very famous alumni from summer camps. You have everything from famous musicians, actors, entrepreneurs, politicians, and academics. These are famous people who were former campers at one point in time. 

Larry David is an American actor, writer, comedian, and television producer. He was the co-creator, with Jerry Seinfeld, of the television series Seinfeld and was its head writer and executive producer from 1989 to 1998. He famously went to camp with Richard Lewis in Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York. 

Richard Lewis is a comedian and actor who went to camp with Larry David in New York. They didn’t like each other when they initially met.  

Ben Platt is a broadway star and singer. He attended Camp Ramah, a summer camp in California, where he routinely sang and credits for helping him on his journey. 

Andy Samberg is a comedian best known for his role in Saturday Night Live. He previously worked as a camp counselor for Skylake Yosemite Summer Camp.  

Sally Ride was an American astronaut who was the first woman in the U.S. to have flown in space. She worked as a camp counselor at the Tennis America Camp in Nevada. 

Marion Morrison, also famously known as John Wayne. He was a boy scout who even had a summer camp named after him, The John Wayne Outpost Camp in Los Angeles

Dave Burd, better known by his stage name Lil Dicky, is an American rapper and comedian. He came to prominence with the release of the music video to his song “Ex-Boyfriend,” which went viral with more than one million views on YouTube in 24 hours.

George Bush, the 43rd president of the United States, famously went to Camp Longhorn in Burnet, Texas

Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a very famous Supreme Court justice, attended the Jewish summer camp Camp Che-Na-Wah in New York for several summers.

Ben Affleck, an American actor, film director, and producer, attended Crossroads for Kids in Boston. 

Michelle Obama is an American lawyer and wife of the 44th president of the United States, Barack Obama. She attended the all-girls Camp Anita Bliss Coler in New York. 

Mark Zuckerberg, the famous CEO of Facebook, went to Island Lake Camp in Pennsylvania.

Mike Binder is an award-winning American film director, screenwriter, producer, and actor, went to Camp Tamakwa in Ontario during the summers of 1966-75.

Wolf Blitzer is a journalist and television news anchor who has been a CNN reporter since 1990. He went to Camp Ramah. 

Billy Mills, who went to Camp Greylock in Massachusetts, is the second Native American to win an Olympic gold medal. He accomplished this feat in the 10,000-meter run at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, becoming the only American ever to win the Olympic gold in this event. 

Mark Cuban, an American businessman and investor who owns the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks and is well-known for being a “shark” investor on the television series Shark Tank went to Emma Kaufman Camp in West Virginia.
